National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Start Date:
December 1, 2023
End Date: December 6, 2023
Nunavut-wide

Every December 6, on National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, we stop, remember, and honour those we lost to gender-based violence. We are also reminded that gender-based violence continues to be a reality, in our communities and across Canada.

Nunavummiut, on December 6, please observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. in remembrance and organise or attend a vigil in your community. Wear purple or a white ribbon. Hear the survivors’ stories and support them on their healing journey. Teach others about gender-based violence. Work together to stop it.

In Iqaluit, the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council, the Government of Nunavut, the Nunavut Law Society, the YWCA Agvik Nunavut and the RCMP are holding a community walk to honour victims and spread awareness. The walk will start at the four-corners at 6 p.m. and end at 6:15 p.m. at Nunavut Arctic College, followed by a remembrance event. All are welcome!

Listen, learn, and act everyday to end gender-based violence.
