Health, as defined by the World Health Organization is not merely the absence of disease but is rather a reflection of the social, physical, spiritual and mental states of wellbeing. It is an all encompassing term that attempts to address all areas of wellness.
At the Qulliit Nunavut Status of Women Council, we have previously been involved with a cancer project. Although we primarily focused on breast cancer, the project grew to include other forms of the disease. The purpose of this initiative was to provide support for survivors, to increase awareness of breast health in Nunavut, and to develop comprehensive community building initiatives. An important result of this project was the formation of the Breast Health Education Kit. For more information on cancer, please click here.
