2009 marked the ninth consecutive International Women’s Day event held in Iqaluit. In the morning of March 7, women were encouraged to sell their wares at our annual arts and crafts sale, followed by an afternoon talent show. We were happy to welcome over 300 guests to this event, all of which enjoyed listening the Honorable Eva Aariak speak about the importance of women in our society, and watching performances by local artists such as Karen Mackenzie, the Hip Hop Spot B Girls dance group, Laakkuluk Williamson-Bathory, and Celina Kalluq and Becky Kilabuk. It was also with great pleasure that we welcomed to the stage Ria Mae and Margot Durling, two special musical guests from Nova Scotia, who recently released their debut EP.
As a result of very kind donations from all those who attended, we were happy to present the proceeds to the Children’s Group Home in Iqaluit.
